"Stone Tool... err, Knife"

The inspiration for this comic was a blog I wrote, Kids Should Play With Knives. As the blog says, "Schools suspend kids for stocking a car safety kit, forgetting about the pocket knife their grandfather gave them, bringing a spork to eat lunch with, shooting an imaginary arrow and making a clock." I understand the fear, epsecially in a world where ancient outdoors skills are no longer common. But as the blog also says, "We’re entering an era when education only allows children tools used for abstract thought." Kids need a chance to work with their hands, and practice skills that get them out of their heads and work with rocks, dirt and wood.

Finally, we get that "happy ending" for this comic is not very realistic. But we wanted Frank to be available for other adventures and we always work to shine a better light forward :-)

The World

Trackers Kids live in two worlds: the real world and the world they create in their imaginations. Whether that’s a treetop nursery for baby dragons, becoming secret agents, or a prehistoric mammoth hunt, Trackers kids have rich fantasy worlds they inhabit. Re-entry from the imaginary to real world is not always easy.

The Characters

Trackers Kids have wild imaginations, but they also have mad Trackers skills. They can track, hunt, build a fire and survive in the wilderness. They are a band of friends united by their love of nature and their thirst for adventure. The rotating cast of characters are:

savanah

Savanah

Savanah is great at all the wilderness survival skills (carving, tracking, archer).

Josh

Josh

Josh is the quiet leader of the group. He appreciates great adventures and action.

frank

Frank

Frank is all about story.

fiona

Fiona

Fiona is a bit of a trouble-maker, always spoiling for a fight. She’s independent and likes to do things her way.

Comic Creators

amelia

Amelia Davis

Amelia Davis is an avid archer, hiker, biker, and camper who loves making comics and games (both board games and video games), in her spare time! Amelia has written and drawn comics since before she knew what comics were, and all of them were about the crazy adventures she went on in her imagination. Currently Amelia is working on a number of different comics that are soon to be published, but she can’t say much more than that. You can find out more about Amelia at ameliaddraws.com and on her facebook page. Lettering by Woody Arnold.

michelle-mccann

Michelle McCann

Michelle is a Trackers parent who has been writing and editing children’s books for more than 20 years. She’s had a passion for comics since her own childhood addiction and still has her original collection (all in plastic sleeves, of course), which she graciously shares with her children. When they’re being nice.

dr-dice

Tony Deis

Tony is one of the founders of Trackers Earth. When he was young he eschewed high school and headed to the wilderness. There he found stories of the more-than-human-world that inspired him to bring people back to the wild.
